Lord Of the Flies ~ rehana


Title: Lord Of the Flies
Author: William Golding

Overview: This novel was basically about a group of young school boys being stranded in a island without any adults. Together these group of British boys create their own society and elects Ralph as their leader since he is the one that posses the conch shell which symbolizes civilization because it was used to unite everyone for meetings and other purposes. Jack is Ralph's rival who envy's Ralph's leadership and later creates his own group. These boys together creates a society and undergoes the changes from being young innocent children to savages who hunt and kill.

Main Characters :
*Ralph- Protagonist, elected leader, wanted to maintain civilization and build a signal fire for rescue.
* Jack- Antagonist, leader of the choir group as well as the hunters, wanted
others to hunt and went against Ralph's ideas due to his desire for
leadership.

Major Themes: Civilization Vs. Savagery, Loss of innocence
*In the novel Ralph symbolizes civilization while Jack symbolizes savagery. Ralph tries to maintain a civilized society based on morals, rules and
government while on the other hand Jack hunts and killed animals. These young
kids had gotten involved in blood lust, pace painting and carried spears. They also
took part in killing Simon. All showed signs of the loss of innocence disrupted by
the evil in mankind.
