Quotation Response #1

Below, I've listed three quotations of varying concentrations. Your task is to respond to the quotation that most moves you and triggers an emotional reaction. I'd like you to create a posting of your own (click the blue rectangle labeled "create a post" on your work-page) and discuss what this quotation means to you and why it moves you.
I would love for you to respond to the quotation by making reference to the characters and themes of Bodega Dreams as well as our varying discussions surrounding our reading of this novel.
I'd then like you to pose three questions to your classmates within your posting that extends the discussion. Are there questions you have concerning the quote or our discussions concerning the big ideas and issues of the novel?
Additionally, you are to comment on two other postings that have been published on our blog. The assignment may seem daunting but you do have a week to complete it. Have fun with it and I look forward to reading your postings. Here are the quotations:
  • "The tragedy is not that love doesn't last. The tragedy is the love that lasts."

  • "The love that lasts the longest is the love that is never returned."

  • "If you love somebody, let them go. If they return, they were always yours. If they don't, they never were."

  1. I believe that the quote "If you love somebody, let them go. If they return, they were always yours. If they don't, they never were." implies that if you like or love somebody leave him/her and if that person loves you back she/he will come back looking for you because your not there. If they don't come looking for you it shows that it was never meant to be.

If they don't, they never were." implies that if you really love let live in happiness thay chossing and that if they return then they have chossing you.Like bodega who try to have vera come back to him to see if she really loved him the first place

  3. I agree with LolsitzGeorge because mostly this is what happening in Bodega Dream when vera is coming. Blanca is still with Chino in the book and have not yet giving a reason to leave Chino.

  4. "The love that lasts the longest is the love that is never returned."

As a child many people have crushes that some people call "puppy love". In this sense "puppy love" is a innocent crush in which one person is attracted to another without them knowing sometimes for days, months, years. Like most children i also endured the horrific ordeal of the "puppy love" stage. But as one becomes older the "puppy love" stage slowly transforms into an emotion called love which one cant ignore or control. Love is an emotion triggered by the most powerful tool to man ; the brain. Some people , including myself, believe that love is triggered by the heart and this is why i quickly became attracted to the quote. This quote is stating that people whom have the most lasting love is the love which is not being returned. For example, in the novel Bodega Dreams , the main character Willie Bodega is still infatuated with his first true love Vera , even after the fact that she got married and started a new life. But yet he still goes out his way to try and contact her and ultimately reveals that his heart still beats for her even after all the lost years and neglecting. As I stated before I believe love is found in the heart and once you love somebody its hard to stop or get rid of and in most cases few people end up with there true love most of the time because there too shy to reveal there feelings. If that were to occur the "puppy love" stage would kick in and one would have the feelings for another without them knowing but in a more profound matter.

1.Is it better to have loved and lost then to not loved at all in this case?
2.Is love a feeling located in the heart or brain?
3.Do you disagree with me and believe that love is a two-way street and its takes two to accomlish the feeling love or do you agree with me?

  5. Comment on Diana-

I feel that true love actually comes from the heart but in some cases it might be from the brain. For instance, one might be talked into being "inlove" but really its that they've herd it so much that they soon begin to belive it.

  6. "If you love somebody, let them go. If they return, they were always yours. If they don't, they never were."

I believe in this quote. In Bodega dreams Bodega wants Vera back. However, she is married to another person. If she goes back to Bodega then the love they had was always their and she was always his.

Question:1) What if your lover loves you but can't return to you?
2)Is it really smart to let someone you love go?
3)Why would you let them go in the first place?

  7. I think the quote "if you love somebody, let them go.If they return, they were always yours. if they dont't ,they never were.", is about if you love someone you would want the best for them no matter what, but if they come back to you that mean they really love but if they dont then it was never meant to be.
